Substance use disorders are a significant healthcare challenge within correctional populations. Individuals entering custody may be experiencing active substance use, withdrawal, opioid dependence, alcohol dependence, or other medical and behavioral health concerns that require immediate attention.

CHP provides clinically driven substance use services focused on patient safety, stabilization, treatment, education, and continuity of care.

Early identification is particularly important. Screening during intake can help clinical teams recognize recent substance use and determine whether additional observation, withdrawal management, medical intervention, or behavioral health services are necessary.
