Chief Medical Officer
Dr. James Veltmeyer is one of CHP’s chief medical officers and serves as Site Lead Physician for San Diego Central Jail. His prior experience includes five years as Chief of the Department of Family Medicine at Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, Hospitalist with the Department of Internal Medicine at Sharp Grossmont and Alvarado Hospitals and Family Medicine Physician at Chuckwalla Valley State Prison in Blythe, CA. He has also served as Chief Medical Officer with Sphere Therapeutics, Serene Behavioral Health, Nova Biologics and Therapeutic Solutions International. Dr. Veltmeyer received his BS degree in Biology from the University of California, San Diego and his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine. He is recipient of the 2018 California Hero Award by the California State Senate and a five-time recipient of the San Diego Medical Society’s “Top Doctor” award. Dr. Veltmeyer resides with his wife Laura and two children, Olivia and Landon, in La Jolla, California.
